Bariatrics – medical therapy for severe obesity, which is performed by using surgical procedures. The treatment leads to significant improvements in the standard of living and general health of patients. Mazan Surgery Clinic presents a setting in which the individual needs of patients always have top priority.

Our Clinic offers the following procedures of bariatric surgery:

  • Sleeve gastrectomy – stomach reduction,
  • Roux-en-Y gastric bypass,
  • LGCP – Laparoscopic Great Curvature Plication.

Sleeve gastrectomy

This bariatric treatment is a procedure, that shrinks your stomach to approximately 25% of its original size. After surgical removal of a substantial area of the stomach, the surgeon forms a tube-like structure. The procedure is performed using a laparoscopic technique and is irreversible.

The sleeve gastrectomy procedure is recommended by “The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO)”. It is undertaken in patients with a second or third stage of obesity, i.e. BMI> 40 or BMI> 35 associated with other diseases. Do not forget, you will be forced to change your eating habits permanently after the operation. Independent studies show, that as a result of this treatment, patients lose an average of 50% of their overweight within the first 5 years after surgery.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

Gastric bypass surgery has been running successfully for 30 years. In this procedure, a miniaturized stomach (gastric pouch) is surgically applied, which is connected to a small intestine loop. A second section of the small intestine is then used to capture the digestive juices to deliver them approximately 100-150 cm distal to the alimentary loop via another connection. Since the gastric pouch has a much smaller volume than the stomach itself, the patient subsequently consumes only significantly smaller amounts of food.

This method allows effective reduction of body weight by up to 70%. It is primarily a malabsorptive method with mild restriction. The gastric bypass has the same position in the body after completing surgery as the previously complete stomach. The operated patients can begin to eat solid foods after only a few days. As a rule, people who are overweight and have a BMI score of over 40 get the most benefits from the surgery.

LGCP – Laparoscopic Great Curvature Plication

A relatively new method, which is used under general anesthesia. Stomach plication is an outpatient surgery that is performed endoscopically. In this case, a double fold or a kind of probe is formed in the most curved area of the stomach. The mentioned folding is carried out by means of gastric threads on the stomach walls. In this way, the double fold in the stomach can arise. The procedure is reversible. The aim is to reduce the volume of the stomach by up to 80%. This method makes it possible to achieve an earlier feeling of satiety in the patient. Therefore, this will take up less food.

After successful treatment, we also offer great services of plastic surgery.
